Actor Danny Mahoney gives us an insight into what we can expect from the second season of Purgatory.
Who would you consider your biggest inspiration?
I couldn’t name just one. I’m inspired by all the artists who pursue their dreams despite the costs it has on our lives, (and our wallets)!
How do you balance your work life/ family life?
My family lives on a different continent, so that scale isn’t balanced very well! I only just got back to Canada to see them for the first time in almost two years since the pandemic. I’ve been single for a long time, so I never had to worry about any kind of work/family balance. I’m in a relatively new relationship, so I’ll probably have a better answer for you down the road after I’ve learned how to balance it all.
Who do you wish to work with in the future?
I would love to be in something written by Russell T Davies. His latest project, 'It’s A Sin', was incredible. As was 'Years and Years'. He is creating some really exciting scripts that I’d love to sink my teeth into.
What's one major hurdle you've overcame on your journey to becoming an actor?
For the majority of actors like myself, every day can be a hurdle. Sometimes months go by without any acting work. My biggest hurdle ends up being myself - when that doubt begins to creep in and I start comparing myself to other people and worrying that I might never work again. There is that flame of passion that exists in every artist, and I do whatever I can to stoke the flame when it starts to dwindle. I go to the theatre or the cinema, take acting classes, basically try to surround myself with other artists and get inspired by them.
Can you share a few details about the new digital series you’re in?
Purgatory is currently airing on Popstar TV. It’s about a group of strangers who are invited to an exclusive resort for a ten-day retreat. They are lured to an underground cave, locked inside, and become victims in an elaborate revenge plot. My character, Chris, appears to have it all - money, success, love. But he is harboring a very dark secret that is directly connected to the reason he and all the other characters have been targeted and imprisoned together.
What's a philanthropic goal you have set for this year?
I’m a big supporter of All Out, an organization that stands up for LGBTQ+ rights around the world. And I’m looking forward to the Outright Summit this December, hosted by Outright Action International, another global LGBTQ+ organization fighting for rights and equality.
