We are approaching a year since the world shut down and we all had to shelter in place. The time quarantined with our loved ones or alone has provided us with both, challenges and opportunities. One of the benefits of all of this is an opportunity to renew your relationship with yourself. So, let’s look at some ways you can enrich the most important relationship in your life.
You don’t need to be single to make time for yourself. But if you are single, it can be a great way to remind yourself that you are special and worthy of love. First, feel free to treat yourself. Buy yourself some flowers or that makeup that you've been eyeing, order a book to read, or grab some supplies for your favorite hobby. You don’t have to wait for others to show their appreciation for you, when you can give yourself an inexpensive and much needed gift right now.
Take yourself on a date. I recently watched a video of a woman who spent the day on a date with herself. She had breakfast at one of her favorite restaurants, eating outside of course. After she treated herself to a manicure, she then indulged in a little retail therapy. At the end of the day, she checked into a local hotel for an overnight staycation and enjoyed a sweet treat. This sounds like a great way to spend a day and you can make it as fancy as you can afford to.
You can’t go wrong with self-care. Enjoy a spa day at home by trying out a new product you've heard good things about. Draw yourself a bath with candles and scented oils or bath bombs. Set the mood with your favorite music and read a book or watch a movie. It has been shown that practicing self-care can increase self-love. You don’t need to wait for a partner to do these things for you, if you invest in yourself you will never feel unloved.
Get to know yourself again. Life can keep us pretty busy with work, social commitments, kids, and family. We often pour into everyone else’s cup while allowing ours to go empty. Spend some time getting reacquainted with who you are and your goals. You can keep a journal. This journal can reflect your life goals, or your dreams, You can start a hobby, you know that thing that you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time for. Check out a self-help book, it is a great way to dig deeper and ask yourself those tough questions.
Dating yourself is really about committing. Committing to love yourself, to resting, to learning and growing. Remember reconnecting with yourself is a long-term relationship where you take the time to show yourself some love.
