Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali also for some coincides with the harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It is the time for visiting people, exchanging gifts, wearing new clothes, feasting, feeding the poor and setting off fireworks. This is the time when lot of traditional sweets and savouries are prepared. To name a few besan burfi, coconut burfi, laddoos of different kinds and so on. Motichoor laddoo is one of the delicacies which tastes awesome especially during this festival gathering. Below is the recipe. Do try it out as this is an amazing dessert.



Bengal gram lentil - 200 gms

Sugar - 350 gms

Clarified Butter – 200 gms

Cardamom - 5 pods (crushed)

Cashews – 10

Almonds – 5

Raisins – 20

Saffron – few strands


Soak lentil in water for 5 hours. Strain it thoroughly and grind it in the mixer without adding water. Heat a pan and add clarified butter. Once the pan is heated, make small balls of the mixture and fry it. Keep aside. Crush and make powder of these balls in the grinder. Now add sugar and little water in another pan and heat till desired sugar syrup is acquired. Mix the lentil powder to this syrup thoroughly and add crushed cardamom powder to it. Add roasted cashews and raisins also. Before this mixture cools down completely, you need to make

laddoos out of this. Grease your palm and take the mixture and make it into smooth round shape. Now garnish with finely cut almonds.

These laddoos can be stored for 10-15 day in air tight container.
