In a recent interview with theJasmineBRAND, Gabrielle Union expressed that most black entertainers and celebrities are “one or two checks away” from not having enough money to pay for all of their assets.
The start of this conversation has demanded the attention of how this pandemic has influenced the absence of work and the halted inflow of liquid income.
Gabrielle Union added that without the opportunity to continuously grow revenue, the pandemic is placing a lot of people, celebrities or not, under stress. For those of us who aren’t sitting on wealth, the actress added that people “need to understand the difference between fame” and just “having money.” After the interview, Gabrielle Union went to Twitter and furthered the conversation explaining that she wasn’t interested in putting anyone on blast. Rather, she was bringing attention to what is going on in Black Hollywood. Also post-interview, it was surfaced that most black entertainers and celebrities are making less than their white peers. The income disparity between the two presents the idea that having less also provides less of an opportunity to save and obtain the financial capital needed in a potential crisis.
