J. Mendel is a fifth-generation French atelier founded in St. Petersburg in the 1870s. It all began as a luxury fur atelier, Gilles Mendel as designer and CEO in 1981, apprenticed in his family's Paris atelier under his father Jacques and turned into a global fashion house.
Known for combining the highest quality materials and craftsmanship with a modern, award-winning design, Gilles Mendel evolved the company to a fashion house with the launch of ready-to-wear in 2002.
The brand produces fur, ready-to-wear, bridal and couture creations. Accessories, handbags, and home furnishings have recently been added. Mendel received the prestigious Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in 2011, for his achievements in women’s fashion.
