Lifetime's Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace Depicts the Couple's Struggles with the Royal Family

If you are wondering how to kick off your Labor Day weekend, grab some snacks and libations and tune in to Lifetime's Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, the third installment of the network's television movie franchise that follows The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's momentous departure from the British monarchy. Off the heels of the first two films in the series, Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, the newest installment, Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, will premiere Monday, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and as per the official synopsis, the film “explores what really happened inside the palace that drove Harry (played by The Punisher‘s Jordan Dean) and Meghan (She’s Gotta Have It‘s Sydney Morton) to leave everything behind to make a future for themselves and their son Archie.”

Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace revisits the circumstances that drove Harry and Meghan to distance themselves from the confines of Buckingham Place and abandon the duties of their royal roles. The made-for-television movie also examines Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that “The Firm” was not defending them against the British press’s attacks, and Harry’s fear that history would repeat itself. He would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that may have contributed to his mother’s untimely death.

YV Mag correspondent Yolanda Baruch spoke to Sydney Morton about the seemingly unfair criticism that Meghan Markle has received and if she thought it is solely based because Meghan is a woman of color.

The film scrutinizes the dynamics between Prince William (Jordan Whalen), Harry, Kate (Laura Mitchell), Meghan, and Prince Charles (Steve Coulter ), which ultimately leads to the young couple breaking ties with the royal family. Viewers will see the scandalous recreation of the pair's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they air their scathing allegations against the royal family.

Executive producers are Merideth Finn and Michele Weiss. Menhaj Huda will direct from a script by Scarlett Lacey.

The premiere of Escaping the Palace will be preceded by encore airings of the original films William & Kate (at 1 pm), Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance (at 3 pm), and Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal (at 5:30 pm).
