'Power Book II' Star LaToya Tonodeo Reveals Her Favorite Power Universe Character Of All Time

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

It’s a Big Rich Town and the Tejadas are looking to conquer the fortune anyway they can. Power Book II: Ghost is back for a second season and the story is just starting to pick up.

The series and showrunner Courtney A. Kemp announced at the Power premiere in New York this past week, that while this is her last season as the showrunner, she’s going out with a bang.

With Tasha (Naturi Naughton) in witness protection, the season starts with Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) taking more responsibility looking after his grandmother and sister, Yaz. This is parallel to Diana, played by Latoya Tonodeo, picking up more responsibility after her brother Drew (Lovell Adams-Grey) was shot in a drive-by, much to Monet’s (Mary J. Blige) dismay. With Drew still holding a grudge after being injured with Monet, this will leave Diana in the middle to mend things in an already chaotic household - which could lead to a relationship shift between the Tejadas as the season continues.

Your Voice Media correspondent Ty Cole caught with Latoya to chat about the new season ahead and what fans can expect. Her character is due to be involved in a major story arc this season, heavily involving her relationship with Monet.

When asked if she feels Monet is a positive influence on Diana and grooming her correctly, Tonodeo believes Monet is raising Diana and pushing her in the right direction.

“If we take out the drugs and all the negative stuff that Monet is about, I feel she’s grooming her in the right way. In season one, you see Monet instill Diana with confidence telling her she’s not in competition with any girls but herself,” expresses Tonodeo. “If you dig into what Monet is saying, she’s definitely giving Diana the game.”

Tonodeo also shares the best choice for Tariq between Diana, Lauren, and Effie, choosing Diana because she feels Tariq can be his “truest self.”

“I’m going to stick beside her and say Diana,” Tonodeo answers. “She fully understands him. Diana understands the books and she’s street smart. Tariq doesn’t have to fake who he is as he’s a part of the game. Why wouldn’t you want to be with someone who fully gets you without having to change you.”

We also played a game with her involving the Power Universe and she revealed her favorite Power character of all time, choosing Tommy, played by Joseph Sikora.

Stay strapped all season long as Power: Ghost premieres on Starz this Sunday, November 21
