The multi-talented actress announced her new venture via social media which is a free virtual therapy for those experiencing hardships due to the current pandemic. Henson stated "this campaign is for under-served communities experiencing life-changing events related to or triggered by the COVID19 pandemic." She also added "In the African-American community we've been taught to tough it out and hide our suffering , but this isn't something none of us have ever experienced , and no one should suffer in silence." Henson has had her own personal experiences with mental health issues. Her late father Boris Lawerence Henson suffered with issues following his service in the Vietnam war her foundation is named after him.
Through this virtual platform people will be able to get help for many overlooked issues , the goal is to address unemployment , the effects of social distancing, unexpected loss , etc. Her mission statement for the new campaign read, "Given the life changing events related to or triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, many are suffering in silence and isolation. The Boris L. Henson recognizes that during this difficult time, affording the cost of mental health services can be a barrier in the African-American community. Having to choose between a meal and mental health is not something that one should ever have to ponder."
The first initial five sessions are free of charge , but not to worry the service is very affordable the first session is set to start April 15th.
