I kind of grew up with a lot of “nothing”. We had plastic bags, old clothes, and random things that had no true benefit or value to our everyday lives. Even as a child, I appreciated the little things; only holding on to what mattered most.
This kind of spilled over into home décor and office settings. I appreciate space, being able to find what I need, and the ease that order brings to the flow of living. Whether material or digital, it is important to have an open and clear personal and professional space.
Here are a few tips on Spring Cleaning and getting your space in order:
1. Delete old files on your computer. Start with documents and photos from the previous year.
2. Invest in an external hard drive to archive podcasts and photos that have been posted and printed but you still want to hold on to as keepsakes.
3. Give away clothes you haven’t worn in the past year, even the ones you purchased and never rocked. Be honest with yourself. This can be the hardest because of the money spent but the same garment can be of use to someone else versus being trapped in your closet.
4. Organize what’s left in a fashion that suits your daily life. Place clothes and paperwork, even your dishes and food based on how and when they are used. This helps tremendously as you go about your day.
5. Be sure to revisit organizing your space on a weekly basis in order to maintain your living quarters and work space.
